Volunteers who are Dedicated to working with Veterans

Our Great Volunteers

We are extremely thankful for all of the many volunteers who help support this great cause and without or Veterans, we wouldn't have an event to volunteer for. Thank you all!
Captain Cass Coroiescu

Cass Coroiescu is the founder and fleet captain of the Veterans Summer Slam and has a deep passion for the sport of fishing and the outdoors. Still, no passion is stronger than his love for his country and the freedom that he and all Americans share thanks to the sacrifice of the brave men and women of the United States military. Cass's mission is to give back to those Veterans who may not have the opportunity or means to enjoy the things he is so passionate about. We are on a mission to do for those that so willingly have done for us.

Captain Scott Markowitz
On December 21, 2021, the last surviving veteran in my family passed on. Sherman Markowitz served in the United States Marine Corp and was a huge, huge fisherman with a heart as big as Texas. Uncle Sherman never missed an opportunity to take me fishing out of the Galveston Yacht Basin during the 70's and 80's, forever imprinting on my psyche a passion for sportfishing and adventure at sea. This humble man, a Mason, a Shriner and a Jester was an ardent supporter of the Galveston Shriner's Burns Hospital. I seek to continue the good works of my legendary Uncle Sherman in any way that I can, especially outdoors and on the waters of this beautiful place we call home in Galveston Bay.

Captain Scott McCaratt
As a retired US Air Force veteran, US Coast Guard licensed Captain, and boat owner, this would provide an opportunity to take care of those who put it all on the line. I have friends who are disabled vets, have lost friends to the emotional aftermath of their service, and absolutely enjoy working with fellow brothers and sisters in arms. This is a way for me to do just a little something to bring a smile to someone's face and add a little joy to their day. It also helps me.

Become a Captain or Angler

We are on the hunt for volunteers, sponsors, and donors to help raise awareness for our cause and ensure that we deliver a fun and impactful event. Anglers must meet the event critera "for veterans" and will be placed on a waiting list. Participation is dependent on having enough captains and boats to accomodate all participants.
